Amar Singh appointed SP General Secretary, giving a blow to Akhilesh

His appointment comes in the wake of expulsion of presidents of four youth wings of the party and three members of legislative council including one who is a close relative (nephew) of Ram Gopal. All these youth leaders were close to Akhilesh and could have played a major role in party's support to him.

Lucknow: In yet another blow to Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, Amar Singh, his bete noire, was appointed national general secretary of his Samajwad Party, on Tuesday.

Singh, a party Rajya Sabha member of Parliament, was called an "outsider" and recently indirectly blamed by him for the tussle in the Yadav family. His appointment at the top position in the party could have been, therefore, far from pleasing to him.

What could be more embarrassing is that the letter of appointment was hand-written and signed by his father who is also the national president of the party.
