Allahabad: Uttar Pradesh government has been fined for Rs 1 crore for violating the orders passed by the Allahabad High Court regarding the acquisition of a piece of land in Ghaziabad district, whose physical possession is still pending even after four decades.
What the court said?
- The order came on a petition filed by Surendra and others.
- The order was passed yesterday by a division bench comprised of justices Tarun Agarwala and Vipin Sinha.
- Court ordered the state government to deposit Rs 1 crore before the Registrar General of the Court by September 15, which is the next date of hearing.
- Court also observed that state had not acted upon the UP State Industrial Development Corporation, the owner of land, who acquired it for no use.
- In such case, state government should have exempted the land from acquisition.
What is the case?
- A piece of land in Loni in Ghaziabad was acquired in the year 1973.
- Neither the physical possession of the land has been taken till date, nor was any compensation paid to those affected.
