Don't use face of President for poll campaigns: EC warns Political parties

New Delhi: The Election Commission has warned the political parties against using pictures of President, Vice President and Governors in the election campaign. The EC, in an official statement said, 'these designations are directly associated with the country's constitutional structure and are above any political group."

It is to be mentioned that the Congress had used President Pranab Mukherjee's image on one of its party posters. The act was condemned by Mukherjee himself who had asked the political group not to attempt such things further. The Rashtrpati Bhavan's secretariat also informed the Election Commission about the incident immediately.

What the EC stated:

  • We have noticed that some political parties are using images of President, VP and Governors of different states on posters banners and pamphlets for their election campaign.
  • This is unconstitutional and we have warned those parties against it.
  • If this does not stop we would take strict steps against the culprits.
