Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 2,700 crore in Puducherry. The focus is on roads, flyovers, e-buses, industrial parks, education blocks and hospital upgrades. These projects aim to reduce traffic, create jobs and improve daily life. It is one of the biggest development pushes for the Union Territory in recent years.

Big Boost for Roads and Traffic

Narendra Modi said better roads mean better business and easier living. A Rs 140 crore flyover was announced to cut traffic jams in Puducherry town. Many people struggle daily with congestion. This project should ease that pressure.

Forty one rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana were also launched. Farmers and small traders will benefit. Transport becomes faster. Costs may reduce a bit too.

New water supply and drainage works were included. Safe drinking water is basic, yet so important.

E-Buses and Smart City Plans

Urban mobility received attention through the PM e-Bus Seva initiative. Cleaner buses will now run on city routes. Pollution may come down slowly, which is good news for residents.

The Integrated Command and Control Centre under the Smart City Mission has been operationalised. This centre will monitor traffic, safety and civic systems using technology. It sounds technical, but it simply means smoother city management.

Housing for Economically Weaker Sections under the CITIIS programme was also dedicated. Families waiting for proper homes might finally see relief.

Education and Health Get Strong Push

At National Institute of Technology, Karaikal, the Composite Engineering Block named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and the Ganga Hostel were inaugurated. Students will get modern classrooms and better living space.

Healthcare saw upgrades too. The Regional Cancer Centre at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is being modernised. Advanced treatment facilities are expected.

New academic and hostel blocks at Pondicherry University were also opened. Education infrastructure matters more than people realise.

Massive Industrial Expansion Plan

A major highlight is the 750 acre Karasur Sedarapet Industrial Estate. It will host a Pharma Park, Textile Park, IT Park and even a research centre linked to IIT Madras. This could attract investors from across India.

Industrial growth means jobs. Jobs mean stability for families. That cycle is important.

Focus on Sustainability and Power

Projects under the MISHTI mangrove restoration initiative were launched. Protecting nature while building infrastructure feels necessary now. Heritage Town development also got attention, preserving Puducherry’s unique charm.

Power distribution upgrades under the RDSS scheme and capital works under the SASCI scheme were announced. Reliable electricity changes daily life quietly but deeply.

The Centre’s extension of SASCI to Puducherry is expected to speed up infrastructure building. People here hope these promises turn into visible change soon.

For Puducherry, this moment feels big. Roads, schools, hospitals, industry, all moving at once. If implemented well, the impact could last for decades.
