New Delhi: The opposition has planned to bring a contempt of parliament motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not attending the house so far. The opposition leaders who have not allowed the Parliament to function for the past four days over the notes ban issue said that they were deciding to bring the contempt motion against the PM. The CPI( M ) leader Sitaram Yechurry said," We are exploring a contempt motion against the PM. Almost 13 opposition parties have held a strategy session on the matter."
It may be mentioned that the opposition parties have also decided to stage a joint protest on Wednesday in a Parliament complex. As many as 200 opposition leaders have decided to join the protest on notes ban issue While West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee will hold a demonstration against the Central Government at Jantar Mantar.
The political sources however said that their is no provision in the parliamentary rules to allow such a notice. Only a privilege motion against the PM can be brought and that too only in the Lok Sabha where PM is a member.
What opposition leaders said against Modi:
- The PM himself made the announcement. Hence he should come and explain the move which has caused immense hardships to the people and has affected trade.
- He has time to speak on television, address a pop show but not talk in parliament?
- He should come and listen to the pain people have faced because of his decision.
- I will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar at 1230 hrs and I appeal to other (opposition) parties to register their protests on the roads on demonetisation which has caused hardship to the common people.
The opposition has also decided to demand Rs 10 lakh compensation for people who have lost their lives while standing in bank queues due to the decision of central government.
