New Delhi: Amid prevailing tensions between the neighbouring nations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday conveyed his warm regards to Pak PM Nawaz Sharif on his 67th birthday.

Modi took to Twitter to say, "Birthday wishes to Pakistan PM Mr. Nawaz Sharif. I pray for his long and healthy life."

Born on December 25, 1949, Sharif is the 18th prime minister of Pakistan and is holding the chair since June 2013.

Modi's initiative of wishing his Pakistan counter part is considered to be a fresh start in building up a relation between India and Pakistan and also to start the diplomatic level talks which have almost ended for over a year.

Tensions have been simmering due to major ceasefire violations by Pakistan at the Line of Control (LoC) and promoting terrorism over its soil, which India is opposing.
