Actor Mithun Chakraborty resigns from Rajya Sabha

Mumbai: Veteran actor and politician Mithun Chakraborty resigned from the Rajya Sabha on Monday. The resignation cam in view of some health issues, sources close to the actor said.

The 66-year-old actor was nominated to Rajya Sabha by Trinamool Congress. The TMC, in his official statement said, "He has submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman."

Sources from the political party stated, "He has written to the Chairman that because of his health condition he is not been able to fulfil his duty in Rajya Sabha and that is why he is relinquishing his seat."

Chakraborty was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2014 and had attended the Upper House for three days only since then.

Mithun Chakraborty was also allegedly involved in Saradha scam:

  • The veteran actor was summoned in Saradha scam by Enforcement Directorate.
