Indian Army would run out of ammunition in 10 days during war: CAG Report

New Delhi: Out of the 152 types of ammunition used by the Indian Army, 40 percent would run out in less than 10 days, says a disturbing report released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) which was tabled in the parliament on Friday.

Highlighting the critical shortage of ammunition, CAG slammed the state-run Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) for inadequate quality of ammunition supplied to the Army since March 2013.

The report further said that another 55 per cent of the ammunition was below the Minimum Acceptable Risk Level (MARL).

CAG report pointed out that the 'fuzes' used for the artillery ammunition amounts to just 17 per cent. (Fuzz is fitted to the shell just before firing, absence of which makes the high caliber artillery ammunition held by the Indian army useless during operation).

Meanwhile, the government order mandates that army is supposed to have ammunition for 40 days of intense war fighting.
