Indian Army guns down LeT top commander in six-hour long operation

Srinagar: Indian Army on Wednesday gunned down the top commander of terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Abu Bakar in a six-hour long gunfight in Sopore of Kashmir.

After being informed by the intelligence regarding the presence of Abu Bakar, army launched a massive operation at a residential building where LeT chief commander was hiding.

What senior security official said regarding the encounter?

  • When the security forces closed in on the house where the LeT commander was hiding, they came under heavy gunfire, which was returned and the encounter started.
  • Abu Bakar was killed in this encounter.
  • The security forces did not suffer any casualty in this operation
  • The house being used as a bunker by the hiding militant commander was damaged following heavy firing

Army has dubbed the killing of LeT chief as a major success.
