India never used me against China, clarifies Dalai Lama

New Delhi: Urging China to maintain peace, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Wednesday said India never used him against it.

“I am a messenger of the ancient Indian thought and I talk about ahimsa, peace, harmony and secular ethics wherever I go,” said Dalai Lama.

The remarks came amid Chinese media's allegations on India of using Dalai Lama diplomatically. Chinese media had said India’s act could cause serious damage to India-China relations.

What Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju had said in this regard?

  • There is no political angle behind His Holiness’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
  • It is completely religious. Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable part of India and China should not object to his visit and interfere in India’s internal affairs

Chinese foreign ministry summoned Indian ambassador Vijay Gokhale and expressed anger over Tibetan leader's ongoing tour of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

"We demand India stop using the Dalai Lama to do anything that undermines China's interests, and we also demand the Indian side not hype up sensitive issues between India and China," said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying.
