Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung tenders resignation

New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung submitted his resignation to the government of India on Thursday.

Jung, who wants to take a leave from the responsibility 18 months before the official ending of his tenure, claimed that he wants to return to his first love, academics. After his resignation, retired bureaucrat Anil Baijal is expected to take over the responsibility.

Jung's constant battle with the Delhi government-led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been highlight of his two-year in the office.

His resignation, however, has raised many eyebrows as this is being considered as an outcome of his consistent clashes with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the national capital.

According to the sources close to Jung, he had been mulling on the idea of resigning since months.

In an official statement issues after submitting the resignation, Jung thanks the Delhi people for all their support and affection, especially during one year's President Rule in Delhi, when he received huge support from them which helped him run the administration in Delhi smoothly and effortlessly.

He also thanked CM Arvind Kejriwal in his statement.
