City based forestry scientist to attend prestigious forestry Congress in Sweden

Dr VP Tewari, a retired Scientist and Former Director of the Himalayan Forest Research Institute, Shimla, who is also the President of the International Society of Tropical Foresters India chapter, will be attending the most prestigious global forestry conference in Sweden.

He will participate in the XXVI IUFRO world Congress to be hosted by the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Stockholm during 23-29 June 2024 that will be inaugurated by His Majesty King Carl Gustaf XVI of Sweden.

International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international network of forest scientists, which promotes global cooperation in forest-related research and enhances the understanding of the ecological, economic and social aspects of forests and trees. IUFRO is "the" global network for forest science cooperation. It unites more than 15,000 scientists in around 630 Member Organizations in almost 120 countries. Dr Tewari served as a office-bearer in IUFRO for a decade from 2010 to 2020.

More than 4500 forestry scientist, researchers and Forest managers from about 125 countries will participate in this most prestigious global forestry event.

Dr Tewari will chair the technical session on "Urban trees and Green landscapes: Monitoring and Managing for Multiple Services". Apart from this, he will deliver a lead talk on the topic "Forest landscape restoration measures as a cost effective solution for climate change mitigation and adaptation in India" and will act as a panelist.
