Dehradun: Badrinath, one of the most revered Hindu religious places, was today closed for six months during winters.

The closing ceremony of the temple, situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, was performed in a traditional way amid chanting of vedic hymns and mantras by a team of Pundits. It may be mentioned that another Hindu shrine Kedarnath dham is already been closed for the pilgrims.

As per the age old traditions, both the shrines of Uttarakhand are kept closed for six months during winters.

Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat had visited the Badrinath temple before its ‘kapats’ (doors) were closed at about 15:45 hours in the afternoon. The entire temple was adorned with flowers while the closing ceremony had been taking place since last few days as per Hindu rituals.
