Gujarat saw a big spike in emergencies during Holi and Dhuleti celebrations. Around 4,890 incidents were reported across the state, which is about 22 percent higher than the usual daily average of 4,002 cases. Festivals bring joy, colors, music… but they also bring accidents, health issues and sudden emergencies. This year it happened again, just a little more than usual.

Why Emergencies Rise During Holi

Holi is loud, bright, and honestly a bit chaotic. Streets fill with people. Water balloons fly everywhere. Colors cover roads, bikes, cars. In that rush, small accidents easily happen.

Officials in Gujarat say such spikes during big festivals are actually expected. People travel more. Crowds grow larger. Some drink alcohol, some drive fast, some simply lose attention for a second. And that second is enough for an emergency call.

Emergency teams across the state stayed alert throughout the day. Ambulances, response teams and hospitals kept services active because Holi days usually bring more cases.

Ahmedabad and Surat Saw Major Rise

Ahmedabad reported the highest number of emergencies. The city logged 908 incidents during Holi celebrations, compared to the usual 767 cases. That’s roughly an 18 percent increase.

Surat, though, saw one of the sharpest jumps. The city recorded 581 emergency cases while its normal average stays around 369. That is more than a 57 percent rise, which is quite significant.

Vadodara reported 255 incidents, up from the regular 208. Rajkot also saw a small increase with 244 cases compared to the usual 216. Numbers were rising almost everywhere.

Smaller Districts Also Reported Big Jumps

Interestingly, some smaller districts reported the biggest percentage increases.

Aravalli recorded 81 emergency incidents while normally the district sees around 48. That means nearly a 68 percent jump. Dang district also saw a large rise with 58 cases instead of its usual 36.

Morbi reported 100 emergencies against its normal 67 cases. Panchmahal recorded 134 incidents compared to 93 on a normal day. These numbers might look smaller than big cities, but the percentage growth was pretty high.

Other districts like Gandhinagar, Bharuch, Tapi, Chhota Udepur and Mehsana also recorded more emergencies than their usual daily figures.

Some Districts Stayed Nearly Normal

Not every place saw a surge though. A few districts reported numbers close to their normal averages.

Amreli recorded 103 cases compared to its usual 102. Navsari saw 83 emergencies against the regular 80. Banaskantha stayed almost exactly the same with 102 incidents.

In some areas, the numbers actually dropped slightly. Junagadh reported 99 cases instead of 109. Anand recorded 84 against its usual 99. Surendranagar and Botad also saw small decreases.

So while most districts saw increases, a few stayed stable.

Emergency Services Stayed Ready

Officials say emergency teams were fully prepared for the festival rush. According to state authorities, festivals like Holi and Diwali usually bring more calls for help. Medical teams, ambulances and control rooms stayed active to respond quickly.

The goal was simple. Be available for people, respond fast, and manage the sudden spike in incidents.

Despite the increase, authorities believe the system handled the situation well. Thousands of emergencies were addressed across Gujarat during the colorful celebrations.

Holi brings happiness, no doubt. But it also reminds everyone to celebrate carefully. Sometimes excitement goes little too far, and that’s when emergency services suddenly become the most important people around.
