Jaya Bachchan Row: BJP's Naresh Agarwal expresses 'regret'

Lucknow: The newly-inducted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Naresh Agarwal has apologised for passing derogatory remarks against veteran Bollywood actor and Samajwadi Party leader Jaya Bachchan.

Talking to media on Tuesday, Agarwal said, "Media gave a wrong angle to my statement. All I can say is that I didn't intend to hurt anyone. I express my regret, if it did hurt anyone."

It may be mentioned that Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav sought an action against the rebel SP leader. He said, "If the BJP actually respects the women then it should take immediate and strict action against him."

Agarwal, soon after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday, had said that he was humiliated by the SP as he lost the Rajya Sabha election ticket to Jaya Bachchan.

“My status was reduced to that of a film actor. Because of her, the ticket was not given to me, which I did not find right,” he said.
