Operation Epic Fury: U.S. Blasts Iran’s Missile Sites in Strait of Hormuz

Update: 2026-03-18 11:41 GMT

In a tremendous show of force that could ignite a wider regional conflict, the United States has launched direct strikes on Iranian missile installations along the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most critical arteries of the global economy.

According to United States Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces unleashed multiple 5,000-pound bunker-busting munitions on Iranian coastal positions in a mission dubbed ‘Operation Epic Fury.’ The targets were anti-ship cruise missile sites capable of turning the narrow waterway into a kill zone for global shipping.

CENTCOM said that the Iranian systems posed a direct threat to international vessels navigating the strait. The strait is a corridor responsible for roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply.

Oil Lifeline Under Siege

The fallout is already visible. Commercial shipping is recoiling. Satellite imagery from the Persian Gulf shows a growing maritime traffic jam, with vessels clustering outside the Strait of Hormuz rather than risk sailing into a potential ambush. Iran’s threats to target passing ships have sent shockwaves through global markets, raising fears of a supply crunch and surging energy prices. The Strait of Hormuz is no ordinary chokepoint, it is the beating heart of global oil transit. Any prolonged disruption here could ripple across economies worldwide.

Behind closed doors, officials are bracing for a longer, more dangerous conflict. Sources indicate that operations tied to securing the strait could stretch the war “weeks, if not months,” with one insider warning it may extend fighting by up to two months.

In a striking development, U.S. planners are now weighing the possibility of boots on the ground. One focal point: Kharg Island, a vital Iranian oil export hub sitting squarely in the strait. The U.S. has already struck targets there, and now, 5,000 Marines are being deployed to the region, signaling that Washington is preparing for scenarios far beyond airstrikes.

Trump–Netanyahu Axis Tightens Grip

The crisis is rapidly drawing in Israel at the highest level. Following a direct call with former U.S. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed expanding coordination. “There is coordination between our air forces and navies,” Netanyahu declared, hinting ominously: “There are many more surprises ahead.” For now, Israeli involvement remains in the shadows. An Israeli source emphasized that assistance is currently limited to intelligence-sharing, not direct strikes.

With U.S. bombs hitting Iranian sites and military forces massing, the Strait of Hormuz is rapidly transforming from a trade corridor into a battlefield. The question now isn’t whether tensions will rise,it’s how far this confrontation will spiral, and how much of the world will be pulled into the blast radius.
