The aircraft carrying Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was a Learjet 45, a mid-size business jet commonly used for chartered and executive travel. The aircraft, registered as VT-SSK, was a chartered plane operated by VSR Ventures, a private aviation services company. According to sources, the jet was en route from Mumbai to Baramati, Ajit Pawar’s political stronghold, when the journey drew attention. Charter aircraft such as the Learjet 45 are frequently used by political leaders due to their ability to access smaller airports, reduced travel time, and flexible scheduling.
The Learjet 45, manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace, is known for its reliability, speed, and short-runway performance. It typically accommodates 8 to 9 passengers and is widely used in India for corporate, medical, and VIP charter operations.
VSR Ventures, which operated the flight, provides non-scheduled charter services and manages business jets for private clients. Such operations fall under the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) regulations governing chartered aviation in India. There were no reports of technical issues or safety concerns during the flight, and officials confirmed that the travel was part of Ajit Pawar’s scheduled political engagements.
The incident has sparked interest largely due to Ajit Pawar’s prominent role in Maharashtra politics rather than any operational irregularity associated with the aircraft or its operator.
