A sudden explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station has taken 10 lives and left several injured. The blast happened around 6:50 pm outside Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila metro station, shaking the busy area filled with shoppers and tourists. Police have declared a high alert across Delhi, and all major crowded places are now under tight security watch.

What Exactly Happened Near Red Fort

According to Delhi Police, a car parked outside the metro station suddenly exploded. The car was seen slowing down near the red light when a loud bang followed, sending flames and smoke across the road. Within seconds, chaos spread, and people began running in panic. Eyewitnesses said the explosion was so strong that nearby buildings shook like an earthquake had hit.

Scene of Panic and Confusion

The Chandni Chowk market, located close to the Red Fort, was crowded as usual when the explosion took place. People screamed and rushed out of shops. Some fell during the stampede that followed. Shopkeepers quickly shut their shutters. Fire tenders and ambulances reached the spot within minutes, and the injured were taken to LNJP Hospital and nearby clinics.

Police and Security Forces on High Alert

Delhi Police’s Special Cell and NSG commandos rushed to the site to check for secondary explosives. The area has been sealed off completely, and bomb disposal teams are scanning the vehicles nearby. Delhi Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that about 2–3 people were inside the car that blew up, and investigation teams are now working to identify the vehicle’s number plate and ownership.

PM Modi Reviews Situation, Home Minister Informed

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Home Minister Amit Shah and senior officials to take stock of the situation. The central government has asked all metro stations and public places in Delhi and Mumbai to step up security. Police presence has been increased at major tourist spots, railway stations, and malls across the capital.

Metro Services Partially Restricted

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has temporarily closed entry and exit from Gate Nos. 1 and 4 of Lal Quila metro station. However, metro services across other lines remain normal. The public has been asked to avoid unnecessary travel near Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid until the area is cleared.

Eyewitnesses Share What They Saw

Mohsin Ali, who was near the site, said he saw cars on fire and people shouting for help. “I was walking toward the metro when suddenly a loud blast shook everything. I saw smoke everywhere. People were crying and running.” Another witness said broken glass pieces and vehicle parts were scattered on the road.

Investigation Underway: Possible Terror Angle

Though the cause of the explosion is still unknown, initial reports suggest a possible improvised explosive device (IED) could have been used. Forensic experts are collecting samples from the burnt car and nearby area. NIA and Delhi Police are jointly examining CCTV footage from nearby shops and metro gates.

Past Blasts and Rising Security Concerns

Delhi has faced several such incidents in the past, including the 2008 serial blasts that left the city shaken. Today’s explosion near Red Fort brings back memories of those tragic days. Authorities are not ruling out any possibility, including a planned terror act.

City Under Tight Vigil

By late evening, traffic around Red Fort, Daryaganj, and Chandni Chowk was halted. Barricades have been placed across central Delhi. Citizens have been advised to remain calm, avoid sharing unverified news on social media, and cooperate with security checks.

Delhi tonight stands in shock again. A monument that symbolizes the country’s pride and freedom has once more turned into a scene of fear and loss. The truth behind what caused the blast near Red Fort is still under investigation, but the pain of those who lost their loved ones is already deep and real.
