Rekha Gupta has presented a massive Rs 1.03 lakh crore Delhi Budget for 2026-27, focusing on roads, drainage, housing, and women empowerment. A big chunk is also kept for green projects. In simple terms, the plan tries to fix daily city problems while also pushing long-term development, though real impact will depend how well it gets done on ground.

Drainage Fix: Finally Some Action?

Delhi’s drainage problem is old, everyone knows it. Waterlogging every monsoon, roads turning into mini rivers, it’s been normal sadly. Now the government has kept Rs 160 crore to improve drainage systems across the city.

This sounds like a strong move, but people will wait to see results. Many such promises came before also, not everything worked properly. Still, a dedicated budget like this gives some hope.

If done right, it could reduce flooding in many areas. But execution matters more than announcement, always does. So yeah, eyes will be on how fast and how well this actually happens.

Roads, Flyovers and Less Traffic Dreams

A big part of this budget goes into roads and traffic solutions. Around Rs 1,000 crore has been planned for road construction and upgrades. New flyovers and underpasses are also in pipeline, like projects near Yamuna Vihar, Kalkaji, and Najafgarh drain.

These projects aim to reduce traffic jams, which is a daily headache in Delhi. Anyone who travels peak hours knows how bad it gets. So naturally, this part of budget feels important.

But again, construction in Delhi often means more traffic first, then relief later. So people may face short-term trouble before seeing benefits. Still, long term, better roads could change daily commute a lot.

Women Schemes: A Strong Push

This budget also puts focus on women empowerment. Plans like Mahila Haats, also called Rani Haats, aim to give women their own market spaces. Around Rs 10 crore is set aside for this.

There is also funding for Mahila Samriddhi Yojana and better Anganwadi centres. These centres will be upgraded into proper childcare spaces, which is actually needed in many areas.

Free bus travel continues too, with Pink Cards. Even transgender community is included now, which is a good step honestly. These changes, if done properly, can make daily life easier for many women.

Housing and Support for Common People

Housing is another area getting attention. The government says it will improve slum areas and also work on renovating around 2,400 flats. Around Rs 134 crore has been kept for such projects.

There’s also Atal Canteen plan, which could help provide affordable food. Along with that, a scheme called Vayu Anand Yojana is being introduced for elderly people, with Rs 125 crore allocation.

These steps are small but useful if they reach the right people. Many schemes fail not because of idea, but because they don’t reach those who need it most.

Green Budget: What It Really Means

The government called this a “Green Budget” because about 21% money is going into environmental projects. That could include pollution control, green spaces, and better planning.

Delhi badly needs cleaner air and better environment. So this part matters more than it sounds. But again, just labeling something green doesn’t make it work.

Real change will show in air quality, cleaner streets, and better living conditions. Until then, people will stay a bit skeptical, and honestly that’s fair.

Final Thought: Big Plans, Big Expectations

This budget looks big and ambitious. It touches almost every issue, roads, drainage, women, housing, environment. On paper, it feels promising.

But Delhi people have seen many budgets before. So excitement comes with doubt also. Everything now depends on execution, speed, and honesty in work.

If even half of this gets done properly, city life can improve a lot. If not, it becomes just another announcement. So yeah, hope is there, but people are watching closely this time.
