New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) – A year-long autopsy-based study conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi, found no scientific evidence linking Covid-19 vaccination to sudden deaths among young adults, reaffirming that the vaccines are safe and effective.

The study, titled ‘Burden of Sudden Death in Young Adults: A One-Year Observational Study at a Tertiary Care Centre in India’, has been published in the Indian Journal of Medical Research, the flagship journal of the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Methodology of the Study

Researchers closely examined sudden death cases of people aged between 18 and 45 years using:

  • Verbal autopsy

  • Post-mortem imaging

  • Conventional autopsy

  • Detailed histopathological tests

According to the findings, there was no statistically significant association between Covid-19 vaccination status and sudden deaths in young adults.

Key Findings

  • Leading Causes of Death: Cardiovascular diseases were identified as the most common cause.

  • Other Causes: Respiratory illnesses and other non-cardiac conditions contributed to several cases.

  • Vaccination Status: Both Covid-19 infection history and vaccination status were similar across younger and older age groups.

  • Global Alignment: Findings align with worldwide scientific evidence supporting vaccine safety.

Expert Insights

Dr. Sudheer Arava, Professor at AIIMS, emphasized that the study is crucial in countering misleading claims and unverified reports linking Covid-19 vaccines to sudden deaths.

Health experts highlighted:

  • Sudden deaths among young adults are often linked to undiagnosed underlying health conditions, especially heart-related issues.

  • Importance of early health screening, lifestyle changes, and timely medical intervention.

  • Necessity to rely on credible scientific sources to maintain public trust in vaccination and public health measures.

Conclusion

The AIIMS study reaffirms that Covid-19 vaccines are safe and effective for young adults. Misleading claims suggesting otherwise are not supported by scientific evidence. Public awareness, early diagnosis, and vaccination remain key to preventing health risks.
