Delhi University faced major exam disruption on Saturday, with over 35 papers delayed and some cancelled due to logistical failures. Hundreds of students were left waiting for hours as morning session papers could not be delivered on time. Exams for certain computer science papers like Digital Image Processing and Compiler Design were among the worst affected. The university confirmed that examinations for affected students will be rescheduled, and revised dates will be announced soon.
What Caused The Exam Disruption
The chaos began when question papers for more than 35 subjects failed to reach examination centres on time. Of the 800 papers scheduled for the morning session, logistical issues prevented proper dispatch to several centres. Students reported waiting for up to four hours without clarity, which caused confusion and anxiety. Science and computer science courses were particularly affected, leaving many students frustrated and uncertain.
Impact On Students
The disruption affected mainly Discipline-Specific Elective (DSE) papers for undergraduate students, especially those in the seventh semester. Approximately 10 papers had to be cancelled outright, affecting over 100 students. Others were conducted later in the day, but with difficulty due to delayed arrival of question papers. Many students expressed disappointment, highlighting that such delays can disrupt preparation plans and create stress during exams.
University’s Response
Delhi University released an official notice acknowledging the disruption. The university explained that the logistical issues were the cause of delayed and cancelled papers. They expressed regret over the incident and confirmed that the problems were resolved later in the day. Students were assured that examinations will continue smoothly after the adjustments.
Revised Plans For Affected Students
For honours course students scheduled to appear in three core papers but previously allotted four slots, they will now be allowed to appear in the subsequent three slots. Programme course students will have revised dates announced separately. The university confirmed that all affected examinations will be conducted by the second week of January 2026. Students are advised to regularly check the official DU website for updates and notifications regarding rescheduled exams.
Moving Forward
This disruption has raised concerns about the preparedness and logistical management of one of India’s premier universities. Delhi University officials have promised stricter measures to prevent future mishaps and ensure timely dispatch of question papers. Students are encouraged to stay updated with notices, plan their study schedules according to the revised dates, and remain patient during the rescheduling process.
