Taliban kills 140 Afghan soldiers; PM Modi condoles

Kabul: At least 140 Afghan soldiers have lost their lives and several sustained injuries in Taliban's deadliest attack on Afghan military base. The attack took place in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif on Saturday.

About 10 Taliban fighters in the outfit of Afghan army, driving military vehicles, entered the base and launched gun fire on soldiers who were taking their meals.

Taliban attackers used rocket-propelled grenades and rifles against Afghan army men.

As per the officials, death toll is likely to rise. The official figure is yet to be released by government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on Twitter, saying, "Our prayers and condolences are with the families who lost loved ones."
