Mumbai: In the midst of the corona epidemic, deaths due to other reasons are also not taking the name of stopping. The American health organization Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that 93 thousand people died due to drug overdose in the year 2020. Accordingly, 2020 has been the deadliest year for drug overdose deaths.
Coronavirus: Overdose of medicine
According to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), there has been a steady increase in drug dosage since 1999. In the year 2019, 70,630 people died due to drug overdose.
There has been a 30 percent increase in overdose deaths in 2020. This is the biggest increase ever, says Dr. Joshua Sarfstein, dean of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Practice. They point out that overdose deaths have increased in the pandemic.
Why cases increasing?
Doctor Joshua says that people are resorting to medicines for relief. After some rest, he himself increases the dosage of medicines. This overdose is causing the death of people. The use of medicines without medical advice has increased in the pandemic.According to experts, taking an overdose of a medicine for a disease can have the opposite effect. For example, if you take an overdose of diabetes medicine, the level of sugar in the body becomes very low, due to which symptoms like excessive sweating, feeling weak, very hungry and thirsty can appear. The patient feels as if there is no life left in the body.
