New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin for 50 minutes and discussed the situation in Ukraine. This conversation of his is for the third time with the President of Russia after attacking Ukraine. According to government sources, the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in Ukraine. President Putin has briefed Prime Minister Modi about the status of talks between the teams of Ukraine and Russia. PM Modi has urged President Putin to hold direct talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky apart from the ongoing talks between his teams. He also praised the declaration of ceasefire and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in parts of Ukraine, including Sumy.

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi stressed on the importance of evacuating Indian citizens from Sumy at the earliest. President Putin assured the PM of all possible cooperation in his safe evacuation.

Russia Ukraine Crisis:

Earlier in the day, PM Modi also spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday and requested him to help the Indian students stranded in the war-torn country's northeastern city of Sumy safely. During this conversation, which lasted for about 35 minutes, the two leaders also discussed the emerging situation in the Eastern European country of Ukraine. This information has also been given by official sources. Around 700 Indian students are still trapped in Sumy due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

According to sources, Prime Minister Modi appealed to the Ukrainian government to continue with the efforts being made by India to rescue the Indians trapped in Sumy. The Prime Minister appreciated the ongoing direct talks between Russia and Ukraine. At the same time, he thanked Zelenskyy for the help given by the Ukrainian government in evacuating Indians from Ukraine.
