Damascus: In a lighting operation, a large score of rebel fighters along with Turkish tanks on Wednesday barged into a territory of Syria ousting the Islamic State (IS) jihadists within hours.

The operation was aimed at retaking a key Syrian border town situated in Jarabulus from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

With Ankara launching ground and air offensive amid the conflict, the rebels made rapid progress towards the town and announced victory by the late afternoon, nearly 14 hours after the operation began.

“Jarabulus is now completely free from ISIS,” said commander of a rebel group Ahmad Othman in a statement. Reportedly, the IS militants had fled towards the Syrian city of Al-Bab.
