New Delhi: Governments around the world are now worried about the new variant Omicron, which spread rapidly from Africa to the world. Meanwhile, the government of the Netherlands has announced a nationwide lockdown.

At the same time, a senior British scientist has said that if the lockdown is not imposed in Britain, then the death toll from Omicron in the country could reach 4,000.

Lockdown in Netherlands:

Nationwide lockdown imposed by the Dutch government prompted nations across Europe to reimpose strict measures to contain the fast-spreading Omicron variant and the ensuing wave of the coronavirus.

Acting Prime Minister Mark Root in the Dutch government said on Saturday night that schools, universities and all non-essential stores, bars and restaurants in the Netherlands would remain closed until January 14. Only four guests will be allowed on Christmas and New Year's. On other days only two people will be allowed.

Omicron in Netherlands:

Root said the Netherlands is going into lockdown again from tomorrow, a move being imposed because of the fifth wave caused by the Omicron edition. The Dutch government, ahead of the announcement, has tightened travel restrictions in France, Cyprus and Austria. Paris canceled its New Year's Eve fireworks. Denmark closed theatres, concert halls, amusement parks and museums. Ireland does not allow pubs and bars after 8 pm.

A senior British scientist has said that the death toll from Omicron in the country could reach 4,000 if the lockdown is not imposed in the winter. In Britain, within a day, Omicron's cases increased by 10,000, taking the total number of infected with this form to 25 thousand. The number of new infected with the corona virus has also been recorded in the last 24 hours, more than 90 thousand.

Meanwhile, Professor Neil Ferguson has called for a tightening of restrictions in view of the New Year and Christmas. His team found that even in better conditions, without a lockdown, Omicron could have caused about 3,000 deaths per day in January. The number of Omicron infected in the country rose to 25,000 on Saturday from 15,000 on Friday.
