The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has discovered a huge reservoir of water under the surface of Mars. It is so much that it can fill an ocean. There are cracks in the rocks several kilometers below the surface. There is so much liquid water between these cracks that if they are collected, an ocean can be formed. NASA has done this calculation from the data received from the Insight lander.

A huge amount of water is present at a depth of 11.5 to 20 kilometers from the surface of Mars, in which there is also a possibility of small microorganisms.

Planetary scientist Washan Wright of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, and his team have done this study. Washan has said that the upper layer of Mars, i.e. the crust, creates such an environment at such a depth that liquid water can accumulate in it.

This study of Washan and his colleagues has recently been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Till now it was believed that after the magnetic field of Mars collapsed, solar winds destroyed its atmosphere. During that time, the water of the planet was lost in space. Fresh indications have been found that most of the water did not go into space, but got filtered and deposited in the earth's crust.

Analysis of the data shows that apart from frozen water at the poles, liquid water is still present on Mars. Researchers said that water on Mars is so much below the ground surface that bringing it up is a problem. Even on Earth, making a hole one kilometer deep is a challenge.

Study author Michael Manga said that life is found in deep mines on Earth. Life also exists at the bottom of the sea. But we have not found any evidence of life on Mars. This thing has not been understood till now.
