Lucknow: NASA has discovered a new planet outside our galaxy. It is being speculated that this body may be the first planet to be discovered outside the Milky Way. So far, about four thousand exoplanets (planets that orbit stars) have been discovered, but all of them are located within our galaxy. These exoplanets orbit our own Sun.

NASA discovered new planet:

This possible planet has been discovered through the Chandra X-ray Telescope. It is located in the Messier 51 galaxy, 28 million light years away from our galaxy. The exploration of this planet is based on transit. This planet blocks the light of other stars while orbiting one star.

New planet out of Milky Way:

This common technique has already been used to find thousands of exoplanets. Dr. Rosanne Di Stefano and colleagues have recorded a drop in the brightness of X-rays from an object known as an X-ray bright binary. These objects usually contain a neutron star or black hole that draws gas from a closely orbiting companion star.

The team of astronomers used this technique to detect exoplanets in a binary system named M51-ULS-1. Researchers estimate that M51-ULS-1 will have an exoplanet roughly the size of Saturn. Dr. Di Stefano, from the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, US, and the study's top lead, said the system we developed is currently the only true way to search for planet systems in other galaxies.
