The swearing-in ceremony of Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney will take place tomorrow i.e. on Friday 14 March. He will take oath as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada. This swearing-in ceremony will take place at 8:30 pm Indian time in the ballroom of Rideau Hall in the capital Ottawa.

Apart from Carney, his cabinet members will also take oath on Friday. He won the election of the leader of the Liberal Party on 9 February. Carney got 85.9% votes. Mark Carney will take power in place of Canada's current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

After winning the election of the party leader, Carney met Prime Minister Trudeau. There was a discussion between the two about handing over power. Trudeau announced his resignation from the post of Prime Minister in January. On Friday, Trudeau will go to the Governor General and officially submit his resignation.

Mark Carney is a banker and economist

Mark Carney is an economist and former central banker. Carney was elected Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2008. Due to the steps he took to get Canada out of recession, the Bank of England offered him to become the Governor in 2013.

In the 300-year history of the Bank of England, he was the first non-British citizen to get this responsibility. He remained associated with it till 2020. The decisions taken during Brexit made him famous in Britain.

Popular, but less likely to remain PM for long

In July last year, a polling firm conducted a survey on potential candidates to replace Justin Trudeau. Then only 140 out of 2000 people, i.e. 7%, were able to recognize Mark Carney. After Justin Trudeau's resignation in January, he presented himself as the candidate of the Liberal Party.

After this, he got the support of many cabinet ministers and MPs of the Liberal Party, which has strengthened his claim. According to a recent Mainstreet survey, Carney got 43% support, while former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland got 31% support of voters.

However, it cannot be said for how long Carney will remain the Prime Minister. Actually, the Liberal Party does not have a majority in Parliament. After becoming the Prime Minister, Carney will have to conduct elections in the country before October. At present, he is not even a member of Parliament, so he can conduct elections soon.

Carney wants to improve India-Canada relations

Carney wants to end the tension in India-Canada relations. He has been an advocate of good relations with India. He recently said that if he becomes the Prime Minister of Canada, he will restore trade relations with India.
