Dhaka: A number of 29 people, including several children and women, were killed in Bangladesh on Friday after being struck by lightning in national capital Dhaka and several other districts.

Two children were killed in Dhaka's Jatrabari area where they were playing football in a field.

Several others were injured in the lightening and were rushed to Dhaka Medical College with wounds caused by the lightning, police said.

They said in most cases the victims were farmers who were busy in harvesting rice in villages.
