Cairo: At least 45 people have lost their lives and 119 sustained injuries in twin blasts at two Egyptian Coptic churches in different cities of northern Egypt. The attack took place when worshippers were celebrating Palm Sunday.

The first explosion took place inside St. George's Church in the Nile Delta city while the second blast took place in St. Mark's Cathedral in the coastal city of Alexandria.

Islamic State has taken the responsibility of the attack.

As per the orders of Egypt's President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the military forces have been deployed across the country. Abdel Fattah also condemned the deadly attack.

"There was blood all over the floor and body parts scattered," said a woman who was present inside the church during the attack.

"There was a huge explosion in the hall. Fire and smoke filled the room and the injuries were extremely severe," she added.
