London: A married lesbian couple from India on Thursday lost their legal battle to stay in the United Kingdom on the grounds that their relationship would not be legally recognised in India.

The anonymous lesbian couple, arrived from India as friends in 2007 and went on to enter into a civil partnership in Scotland in 2008, which they converted into marriage in 2015.

Judges at the UK's court of appeal rejected their application to remain in the UK on the grounds that their relationship would not be legally recognised in their home country of India, reported Guradian.
