Kansas (USA): An Indian engineer was killed and two others were injured when an American man opened fired at them in Olathe city of Kansas. According to the local police the gunman was allegedly yelling 'get out of my country’.

The deceased was identified as 32-year-old, Srinivas Kanchibhotla. He worked at the Garmin headquarters in Olathe.

Alok and Ian Grillot, who, sustained severe injuries were immediately taken to nearby hospital.

Police nabbed the accused, who was identified as 51-year-old Adam Purinton.

The chief of police Steven Menke said, "It was a tragic and senseless act of violence."

The Indian Embassy is probing the matter. Two senior officials of the Indian Consulate in Houston have been sent to Kansas to meet the victims’ families.

Indian Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj took to twitter and expressed a deep shock regarding the incident. She also contacted Indian ambassador to the US Navtej Sarna.

According to Garmin, Kuchibhotla and Madasani worked in the company’s aviation systems.

The Garmin stated, "We’re saddened that two of our associates were involved in last night’s (Wednesday night) incident, and we express our condolences to the family and friends of our co-workers involved. Garmin will have grievance counsellors on-site and available for its associates today and tomorrow.”

Director of Government Relations at Hindu American Foundation Jay Kansara said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Srinivas Kuchibhotla."

The police said, “The accused has been charged with first degree murder along with a penalty of $2million.
