Naypyidaw - Htin Kyaw has been sworn as a president of Myanmar on Wednesday.

Myanmar has been under military or military dominated rule since 1962.The 70-year-old Htin Kyaw took oath with his two vice president in a joint session of Myanmar's newly elected parliament.

"I will be loyal to the union and its people. I will respect this constitution and the laws of the nation," said Htin Kyaw in oath ceremony.

Who is Htin Kyaw?

  • Htin Kyaw is a son of famous poet and writer named Min Thu wan.
  • He studies economics at the university of Yangon .
  • He was the head of Daw khin Kyi Foundation, a charity named after Aung San Suu Kyi mother.
  • Htin Kyaw is a crony of nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi.
  • Aung San Suu Kyi was also his classmate in high school in Yangon.
