Hong-Kong: Five people killed, over 30 injured in an accident

The incident took place on Friday when  a tourist coach collided with a taxi on a road in Tsing Yi, an island to the northwest of Hong Kong Island, shortly before 5:00 a.m. local time (2100 GMT Thursday).

Hong Kong: At least five people lost their lives and more than 30 were critically injured in an accident in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

The incident took place on Friday when a tourist coach collided with a taxi on a road in Tsing Yi, an island to the northwest of Hong Kong Island, shortly before 5:00 a.m. local time (2100 GMT Thursday).

The people were dead on sport while two other lost their lives after being sent to the hospital. Over 10 ambulances were rushed to the scene to rescue the victims and send the injured to four nearby hospitals.

A total of 34 injured were sent to hospital in which eight of them were in serious condition.

Television footage showed the rear end of the taxi completely caved in. The accident resulted in the closure of part of the lanes on a highway to the airport.

Police Superintendent Yip Siu-ming said, "We believe the taxi was broken down and stopped on the left lane of the road. Around 40 seconds later, a coach hit it from behind."
