Washington: Legendary American humourist Gene Wilder, remembered for his lead role in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory – 1971 British-American musical fantasy flick – has passed away. He was 83.

“Wilder died on Sunday in Connecticut’s Stamford city following complications from Alzheimer’s disease,” said a source close to the actor’s family.

Wilder also acted in classic films like The Producers (1968), Young Frankenstein (1974) and Blazing Saddles (1974). The actor frequently collaborated with writer-director Mel Brooks and stand-up comedian Richard Pryor.
