Virginia: A World War II U.S. army veteran met his wartime lover after 70 long years. The two finally met on previous Wednesday in Australia and are going to spend this Valentine’s Day together.

Norwood Thomas, now 93, met his lover Joyce Durrant (88) in London just ahead of Valentine’s Day. Both of them were in touch and exchanged letters even after the war was over.

But the two eventually married other people. Thomas' wife died in 2001 and Morris divorced her husband after 30 years.

Last year, Morris asked her son to search Thomas on-line, and they found his name featured in an article about D-Day (6 June 1944, the Second World War on which Allied forces invaded northern France) that ran in The Virginian-Pilot newspaper.

After their story went public, hundreds of people made donations to help fund Thomas' trip to Australia from his home town in Virginia Beach, USA.

The support they received was overwhelming, with donations more than 75,000 dollars around the world.

Thomas and Morris then connected via Skype.

Now, Thomas is in Australia and he will celebrate this Valentine’s Day with his love after 7 decades.
