Massive fire at Oakland warehouse during concert; 40 feared dead

California: A major fire erupted at a warehouse in Oakland city, California on Friday night which killed up to 40 people, present there to attend a night concert, claimed the media reports.

According to the sources, the officials had recovered nine bodies till 2.20 pm (local time) but they feared up to 40 fatalities. They also said that among the deceased, most were young and a few also belonged to foreign countries.

Firefighters had started to recover the bodies from the burned-out remains but as the building’s roof had caved in, the debris was hindering the search efforts, said an official.

The officials also informed that at least 12 people succeeded in escaping death in the fatal fire, one of whom have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The cause of fire is yet to be known, but the officials showed confidence that it wasn't an arson.

Officials believe that the death toll in the apparent tragedy might increase as there are a few families which still haven’t heard of their relatives who attended the event.

The officials also claimed that it might take two days to conclude the search operations.

A Twitter page of Oakland Firefighters (@OaklandFireLive) shared a footage of the fire at the warehouse:
