Berlin: Amid the spate of terror attacks across the globe, two separate explosions took place in an international congress center and a mosque in Germany’s Dresden city but no casualties were reported, fortunately.

“The assault took place in late hours on Monday and there were no immediate reports on the extent of damage,” said a statement by Dresden police.

“Although the responsibility of the attack has yet not been claimed by any individual or outfits, we must assume it to be having a xenophobic background,” said Police President Horst Kretschmar.

Other highlights:

  • According to police, pieces of a home-made explosive device were found near the congress center.
  • The security in mosques all over the German city has been beefed up in the wake of the incident.
  • The attack came a week before the country’s national unification celebrations.
