Egypt airplane makes emergency landing in Uzbekistan

CAIRO: An EgyptAir plane en route to Beijing from Cairo, had to make an emergency landing, on Tuesday, in Uzbekistan, due to a bomb threat.

The passengers were evacuated and the aircraft is being searched, said the Egyptian officials.

The incident:

The Airbus A-330-220 with 135 passengers and crew on board landed at the airport in the town of Urgench, about 840 kilometers (600 miles) west of the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, three hours after it took off from Cairo at around 11:30 p.m.

What officials said:

On the condition of anonymity the airline officials said, an anonymous caller telephoned security agents at the Cairo airport to say that a bomb was kept inside the airplane.
