Earthquake of magnitude 6.7 jolts Philippines, six dead
Surigao (Philippines): At least six people died and over 120 suffered critical injuries when an earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude on richter scale rocked Philippines on Saturday night. More than 100 aftershocks were felt by the residents.
According to the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology, “The epicentre of the earthquake was 16 kilometres northwest of the provincial capital of Surigao at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres.”
The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
According to the officials, “The earthquake jolts the city when people were sleeping in their houses. The residents were shifted to a large ground of a school.”
The domestic airports were closed due to deep cracks in the runway.
According to the reports many buildings including colleges, hotels and shopping malls were damaged.
