Beijing: An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit the areas near the Taiwan straits on Monday.

The earthquake occured at a depth of 20 kilometres and the epicentre was monitored at 23.28 degrees north latitude and 118.60 degrees east longitude.

It is to be mentioned that earlier the quake was reported to be of 5.6 magnitude.
