Earthquake of magnitude 6.8 jolts Philippines

Manila: An earthquake measuring 7.2 magnitude on richter scale rocked Sarangani town in Davao Occidental and other areas in Mindanao of Philippines early on Saturday. As many as 14 people sustained injuries in the same.

Though, no loss to life was reported. The earthquake left cracks in a hospital, two government buildings and a port while at least one house was totally collapsed.

According to the officials, “The earthquake jolts the city when people were sleeping in their houses. The residents were shifted to a large ground of a school.”

"The floor appeared to rise first before swaying violently from side to side. Then the lights went out," said a local.
