The Human Rights Day was adopted by United Nations General Assembly on Dec 10, 1948 since then it is observed on this date every year.

Celebrating Human Rights Day: A Reflection on 75 Years of Progress and Challenges

New Delhi: Today, On Dec 10 the whole world is celebrating 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This day holds a very important and significant place in the history of humankind as many other historic event were registered on Dec 10.

But let's talk about Human Rights first:

The Human Rights Day was adopted by United Nations General Assembly on Dec 10, 1948 since then it is observed on this date every year.

It is a milestone document that proclaims the sacrosanct rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being -- regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. It is the most translated document in the world with more than 500 languages.

Apart from this many other historic incidents happened on Dec 10. On Dec 10, 1878 one of the founders of Jamia Millia Islamia was born in Rampur. And on the same date in 1896 Alfred Nobel had bid this world goodbye. He was the founder of Nobel prize.

On Dec 10, 1898 the war between Spain-America ended after Paris treaty between the two countries was signed. Dec 10, 1902 Women of Tasmania got voting right. On Dec 10, 1950 United Nation General Assembly declared this day as International Human Rights Day. It is the day when in 2001 veteran actor Ashok kumar passed away.

On Dec 10, 2007 Argentina got its first female President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. On Dec 10, 2016 Turkey suffered a terrorist attack where in two bomb blasts in a football stadium took 38 lives.
