Vienna: China is once again leading the countries in opposition to India, in joining Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), which is the main club of countries controlling access to nuclear technology. China has raised the issue of non-signing nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty. China has said that if India is included in the group of membership, then Pakistan should also join.

  • China had opposed India‘s membership in 2008.
  • Then it raised the issue of non-signing nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty.
  • China also wants Pakistan in the group along with India.

No clarity among other nations also-

  • Several nations including Turkey, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and Austria have not given their views on the issue.
  • Previously, New Zealand had questioned India’s nuclear program.

Decision to take place in Seoul-

  • On June 20, there will be a meeting of NSG countries.
  • America, Switzerland and Mexico are in India’s support.
  • India’s membership will be only accepted after China’s approval.
  • Every decision of NSG takes place after the acceptance of all the group members.
