New Delhi: In India, words like thunderbolt heart and stone heart human are in vogue. These indicate the hard heart of a person and a person with such a heart is considered strong, but the shocking truth of a five-month-old baby girl in Britain has come to the fore.
She is battling a complex genetic disease. She was born on 31st January this year. Her body is turning into stone. This disease turns muscles into bones.
A baby's muscles turning into bones:
The name of this girl is Lexi Robbins. She looks like any normal child, though she can't move her thumb and her toes are too big. A few months after his birth, his parents took him to the doctors. Her investigation revealed that she was suffering from a limited life condition called Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP). One in two million people have this disease.
Stone Body:
Her X-rays done in April showed that she had twin toes on her feet. FOP disease causes bones to form outside the skeleton. Due to this the patient is unable to move. It is believed to convert muscle and connective tissues, ie tendons and ligaments, into bone. That's why it is said 'has a body of stone'. There is no treatment for patients suffering from FOP. Such people lie in bed till the age of 20. Their maximum age is 40 years.
cannot give birth to a child
Be it Lexi or anyone else, they cannot bear even the slightest blow. In the event of a fall, their condition deteriorates rapidly. Such patients cannot even give birth to children. They cannot get injections and vaccines and even dental treatment.
