Jacqueline Wilson, popular children's author has made some exciting revelations about her new book 'My Mum Tracy Beaker'.

Dame Jacqueline, who gained fame 27 years ago with 'The Story of Tracy Beaker', which focused around a young girl living in a care home with behavioural issues, revealed that her new book will follow her heroine in a totally new phase of life.

At the Specsavers National Book Awards 2018, in an interview with Ok! online, the author explained how her new title would focus on Tracy Beaker's life as a single mum, and focus around her daughter Jess.

She said, "The story is meant to be told by [Tracy's] daughter Jess, whose ten, the age Tracy was when I started writing about her."

Jacqueline added, "Although this story is about Jess, I have had fun introducing characters from Tracy's past, like boyfriends or her worst enemy Justine Littlewood."

The illustrated book is going to be set on a rough housing estate in London, and detail Tracy's struggle raising a daughter of her own.

Jacqueline further said:

- I have a soft spot for Tracy Beaker because she was my breakthrough book.

- It's a double really, for anybody who read the books long ago, but also for people who've never even heard of Tracy Beaker.

It's a double really, for anybody who read the books long ago, but also for people who've never even heard of Tracy Beaker.

Later, speaking to the Observer, she further detailed the reason behind her decision, adding: "When I realised just how long ago it was since I wrote the first Tracy Beaker book, I thought: if we were in real time, Tracy herself would be in her 30s.

"And I’ve always thought that, even though Tracy had lots of problems in her life and a pretty rubbish mum who was never there for her, Tracy herself would be a good mum, no matter what."

Tracy Beaker was an orphan, with behavioural issues, living in a care home she not-so-lovingly refers to as The Dumping Ground.

It is to be mentioned that in 2000, Wilson wrote a sequel to The Story of Tracy Beaker called The Dare Game followed by Starring Tracy Beaker in 2006 and Tracy Beaker's Thumping Heart in 2009.

Wilson's book was famously turned into a TV show for CBBC with Dani Harmer Playing Tracy, Montanna Thompson playing her archenemy Justine Littlewood and Nisha Nayar as their social worker, Elaine 'the pain' Boyak.

The series ran for five seasons, from 2002-2005, and was followed up with a few spin-off series called Tracy Beaker Returns - where Tracy returns to the children's home as a social worker - and Tracy-less series The Dumping Ground.
