Israel has released a video of a Hamas tunnel under the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip. Israel has said that Hamas has prepared a network of hundreds of kilometers long secret tunnels and bunkers throughout the Palestinian territory. According to Reuters, Hamas has denied that its tunnels are located in civilian infrastructure such as hospitals.

Giving an update on its operation at Al Shifa hospital in Gaza City, the Israeli army said its engineers had discovered a tunnel 10 meters deep and 55 meters long up to the explosion-proof door.

"This type of door is used by the Hamas terrorist organization to prevent Israeli forces from entering Hamas bases," a military statement accompanying the video said.

The statement did not say what was beyond the door. It said the tunnel was accessed through a shaft discovered in a shed within the Shifa compound, which contained munitions.

Israel has been conducting a ground operation inside Gaza strip to eliminate the Hamas militants who had attacked Israel last months and killed around 1500 Israelis besides making hundreds others hostage.

Israel has come under sharp attack from the international community over its operations near the hospitals in Gaza in which thousands of Palestinians have been killed. Israel claims that Hamas militants have constructed tunnels beneath hospitals and residential compounds in Gaza a charge vehemently denied by the Hamas.

The United Nations and some other countries have been trying to persuade Israel to a humanitarian pause in the conflict so that much needed aid could be sent to the residents of the town. Israel has so far not agreed to the pause and has been continuing its attack on the militants’ hideouts.
