Kabul: At least 45 Taliban militants were killed as Afghan security forces repelled an attack in Nuristan province, the Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

"Hundreds of Taliban insurgents attacked Want Waygal district on Wednesday night. They were met with fierce resistance from security forces," the ministry said, adding that 50 militants were also injured.

However, the ministry did not reveal if there were any casualties among security personnel.
