Abuja: At least 12 children lost their lives while 19 others injured when a high speed van ran into a school assembly losing its control in Gombe of Nigeria on Tuesday.

The mishap took place during an annual religious procession by school children, said police.

“The children were taking part in what we understood was a Mawlid rally organized by various schools,” police added.

The dead were buried in Malam Sidi. The driver of the van, who tried to run away, was burned to death by the enraged mob. The van was also set ablaze before the arrival of police.
